From the Editor's Laptop... Can you believe it? It seems like we just had our annual convention and already it's time for the next one! We are now in the home stretch and the convention committee will be busy all month long "ironing" out the details of this years event.
This year we are meeting at Seven Feather Hotel & Casino Resort in Canyonville. Our sparkling (and PURPLE) committee chair, Claire Anchick, has negotiated a great room rate for you. Call the hotel direct at 1-800-548-8461 and mention Oregon Dry Cleaners Association. But you will have to hurry as the deadline looms! So much goes in to making this event happen. There are incredible speakers with information that is sure to help you make better profits and work smarter. There are business meetings where the Board can learn from you just what you expect from them. There are opportunities to network with other dry cleaners and vendors. My favorite part is visiting with friends and creating new friendships. And don't forget, there are always surprises! There is pretty much something for everyone and considering the low cost to attend, you simply can't afford to miss it. And don't forget, you won't go away hungry. ODCA provides full meals Friday evening, Saturday breakfast & lunch and THE BANQUET, Remember, all of it is included with your registration fee! Did you get your Convention Brochure and Registration in the mail? Send it in now while your thinking about it. Did you misplace it? No problem. You can go to the ODCA website and register online via PayPal. It doesn't get any easier! Rather not do it online? No problem. You can also download a pdf of the Registration Form, print it out and mail it in. Everything you need to know is on it. Read below to learn whats on tap this year and we'll see you in Canyonville!

It's been a few years since Jon Meijer of the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute has visited us here in Oregon but he is coming back. His message this time is about Branding. What is Branding? The reason consumers come to patronize any given business is based on things they like or believe about that business. Keying in on consumers expectations and why they patronize your business makes it easier to be more efficient and effective when you market products and services. Jon will explain how to get the most from your marketing efforts. It doesn't matter if you advertise in the media, direct mail or rely strictly on in-house promotions, there are secrets to success and you will learn them here. Jon will also speak at Saturday night's banquet on the State of the Industry. Listen and learn and you may just be able to weather the economic storm that is brewing and come out way ahead of your competitors.
Doris Easley, the undisputed Queen of Dry Clean is going to rock your world! Every one of us does some type of restoration work on a regular basis. The problem is we don't realize it's "Restoration" and we don't charge accordingly. Doris will not only show us how to increase our prices on these garments but will also give tips and secrets to doing a better job on them. Don't be afraid! Everyone is invited to bring a "problem" or "project" garment for her inspection and advice. Prepare yourself. You will walk away from this presentation saying WOW.
Have you looked at your lease lately? Have you compared your newest lease with your old one? Just as you have "up-charges" for some of the work you do, so does your landlord. What are these charges? What are the trends in leasing space to run your business? What are the mistakes that most tenents make when they sign a new lease? Tom Bradley had been negotiating leases between landlords and tenents for the past twelve years and knows what the trends are. What you learn may save you thousands of dollars over the life of your contract. Can you afford to miss this? We don't think so.
If your spouse is simply not interested in sitting through a day of seminars? Then this is the perfect diversion. ODCA member Jodi Bittick has put together an incredible tour of four wineries. You will be picked up by a stretch limosine and wisked away for an afternoon of tasting at some of the Umpqua Valleys best vintners. Lunch and dessert are included in this package as well as a souvenir wine glass and personal tasting journal. The tour leaves the hotel at 11:00 on Saturday and returns at 4pm. Plenty of time to relax and prepare for the evenings festivities. Please note that registration for the tour and costs are separate from the ODCA Convention package.
